Abbeyfield South Africa welcomed members of our international Abbeyfield family to this years AGM. We were honoured to welcome Mr. Christopher Buxton, one of the founders of Abbeyfield International, Mr. Allan Snowie the Chairman and Richard Seamen the Executive Director of Abbeyfield International and his wife Elizabeth. Out of 16 international member countries, Abbeyfield SA is coming fourth in the number of houses we have. Our guests were delighted with our success and enjoyed their time here in Cape Town visiting our homes, chatting to the residents and attending the opening of Ethembeni, our 20th house, in Gugulethu. On the 9th May the Abbeyfield Society gave their residents and volunteer committee members an opportunity to relax and enjoy a day of pampering.
Consultants from the International Health & Skin Care Clinic and volunteers gave facials, manicures and pedicures. The Heart & Stroke Foundation of SA were there taking blood pressure readings. Nia Dance Art and Pat's Line Dance group gave demonstrations and many of the residents joined in. A great time was had by all as can be seen from the photographs. View photo gallery.
Christmas came early this year for our ladies in "Ons Huisie" Ocean View. In November seven handmade quilts, beautifully wrapped, each with personalised messages was presented to the residents by Mrs Marian Benetton, Mrs Adrienne Sturrock, Mrs Rose Green and Mrs Eileen Gibbin. These had been made by 7 quilters from the Cape Town Quilters Guild. The Ocean View ladies were overwhelmed to recieve such an amazing gift. This came as a wonderful surprise. Great celebration followed with tea and cakes made by the residents themselves.
Thank you Mrs Benetton and your remarkable team of ladies for putting a smile on our older folk's faces this Christmas.
"Thank you" to De Beers Marine and DG Murray Trust for their donations at Christmas. All Abbeyfield residents received small gifts and residents at our Victor Daitz Lodge in Durban received a new microwave.
